Education and Special Events Manager

 

LCM Education & Special Events Manager is responsible for developing educational programs, classes, and special events. In addition to onsite programs, this position manages the Museum’s outreach endeavors, including, but not limited to, after-school programs, community events, and partner organization collaborations.


Work Schedule
: Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm, weekend and evening availability required

Rate: $15-$17 per hour; health insurance; and PTO


Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and manage an annual program plan and budget that adds value to visitor experiences, supports museum projects, and reaches targeted audiences

  • Develop, implement, facilitate and maintain program offerings, including field trips, after-school, classes and workshops, camps, and special events

  • Assist Executive Director in leading staff in the implementation of the Museum’s educational activities

  • Research and support staff in the identification of funding support for education programs and exhibits


Role Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of experience in informal or formal education settings required; or a BA in Education

  • Supervisory experience working in a team environment preferred

  • Enjoy working with children and promoting learning through play

  • Exceptional customer service skills. Must be welcoming, attentive, and responsive to visitors and colleagues

  • Responsible self-starter with problem-solving skills and ability to work in a high-energy, fast-paced environment

  • Basic to proficient computer skills needed with the ability to be trained on Point of Sale, G-Suite, and database software

  • Flexibility and adaptiveness. Willingness to grow and help the LCM grow.

  • Ability to pass Child Abuse History, Criminal Background Check, and FBI Background Check

Weekend Operations Manager


Supervise (while working alongside) Museum Assistants to ensure that all children and families visiting the Museum have a great experience by providing excellent customer service and maintaining a clean and safe environment.


Work Schedule: Saturdays and Sundays 9:30 am-6:00 pm, with potential for more (must commit to a minimum of 3 shifts per month)

Rate: $17 per hour


Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Model Quality Customer Service by: providing hospitality to children and their caregivers by greeting each visitor, offering information, answering questions, and providing general assistance; checking in customers, selling memberships, gift certificates, retail items, or other Museum products
  • Model Leadership Skills by: supervising Museum Assistants, while working alongside of them, serving as point-of-contact in any problem situations that may arise; delegating tasks for staff to do on slower days
  • Maintain Clean Museum Environment by: walking through Museum making sure all thru ways are clear of debris or obstacles; maintaining the bathrooms, reusable exhibit products, spills, and general cleanliness; cleaning props and exhibits throughout the day

  • Maintain a Safe Museum Environment by: following and enforcing Museum standards and policies; c any potential or active problems to the appropriate Museum staff; assisting in lost child/caregiver response and providing basic first aid as needed; participating in training sessions to review known material and learn new material; assisting in additional tasks as assigned by supervisor or other Museum Directors.


Role Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required.

  • Experience in customer service or an education environment is a plus

  • Supervisory experience working in team environments preferred

  • Enjoy working with children and promoting learning through play

  • Great communication skills with both coworkers and visitors

CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps: Activities Coordinator
Service Term: 01/1/22-8/5/23
Compensation: Living Stipend: $9,000; Educational Award: $3,247.50


The Activities Coordinator will play a key role in the development, planning, and execution of Toddler Time and ongoing weekend activities, such as ex-STREAM Saturdays, summer camp planning and coordination, and other hands-on, activities in our programming room and exhibit space for children 0-12 years old. The Activities Coordinator will enforce museum guidelines and safety procedures at all times ensuring that the museum stays safe and accessible for all guests. Due to the nature of the programming schedule, weekend availability is required.


Candidates for this position must be eligible as a CORE AmeriCorp member from 01/01/2023-8/5/2023. Members may not participate in any activities included in the Prohibited Activities as listed in the Partner Site and Member Agreements, and members must have all clearances before serving Vulnerable Populations.

The Activities Coordinator's tasks will include:

  1. Plan/coordinate summer camps at the LCM: working directly with the Director of Education to oversee the daily operations of camp, managing behind-the-scenes tasks of camp operations, coordinating communication between guests and the museum, helping to secure summer camps scholarships through sponsorships, and potentially leading camp activities where applicable.

  2. As directed by Director of Education: assist with Creation Station, pop-up programs and/or sensory activities, Toddler Time and ex-STREAM programs, and/or other weekend programs; lead public programs and activities for children and adults; organize and prepare materials needed for programming activities; analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and programs, and document attendance.

  3. Daily Operations: Register trained and able to answer basic operational guest and employee questions; monitor the floor (resetting exhibits, interacting with customers); opening/closing procedures including register startup/closing and locking/unlocking museum.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Experience working with children (primarily 0-10 years old) and/or facilitating public programs with a variety of ages; STEM education experience preferred but not required.

  2. Ability to communicate quickly and efficiently with other staff members through multiple mediums including but not limited to email, Google Drive documents, and face-to-face meetings.

  3. Ability to properly utilize Google Drive & Microsoft programs (Powerpoint, Excel)

  4. Eligible as an Americorps Member, providing 900 hours of service to the LCM between January 1, 2023 and August 5, 2023; Participate in CORE AmeriCorps Group Activities

  5. Possess, or be able to obtain, completion of all security clearances required to work with children (if the applicant is over the age of 18)

University Work Study

Do you go to a local university and have work-study as part of your financial aid package? Want to work at a local nonprofit and make a difference in your community? Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Welcoming and orienting guests to the museum and running the register

  • Answering phone inquiries and providing basic customer service

  • Monitoring the exhibit floor for organization, cleanliness, and safety; resetting exhibits; notifying manager on duty of any problems or concerns 

  • Assisting with programs and activities, including research, development, preparation, and implementation

  • Facilitating guest exploration within various exhibit spaces

  • Assisting with opening and closing procedures, including daily cleaning

Role Requirements: 

  • Ability to communicate efficiently with other staff members through multiple mediums including but not limited to email, Google Drive documents, and face to face meetings.

  • Ability to fulfill scheduled shifts and assist with at least one special event and one evening event per semester.

  • Ability to properly utilize Google Drive & Microsoft programs (Powerpoint, Excel).

  • Experience working with children. 

  • If over 18, completion of all security clearances required to work with children before beginning work.
